2007  - OCTOBER MEETING - Goodbye Alice

Go Back to Scrapbook Index

Alice St Germaine has been our wonderful co-president for the past two years.  Last month, we found out that her family was being transferred back to Maryland.  We begged her to come to one last meeting to say Goodbye and when she did, Southern Flames had a few surprises for her.
After Alice greeted visitors and new members, thanked Gerry White for letting us use the Beads by Design space and made a number of announcements, Margo Knight presented her with the first and only Southern Flames Shirt.

The Close-up shows the SF logo and during the rest of the meeting, the shirt was passed around so that we could all sign it for Alice.  We also got to eat the delicious going away cake that Stephanie White contributed.

After the presentation of the shirt, Marcy Lamberson gave Alice and glass bead charm bracelet.  Without Alice knowing it the Membership was asked to contribute small beads wired for a bracelet.  Marcy gathered the beads and attached them to a sterling chain.  In the first picture, Alice is opening the bracelet.

This is a close-up of the bracelet and there are even more beads by more members that will be sent to Alice to be attached.

The 2008 Board will not be elected until April so until that time, Karen Barefield (on the left) was appointed by the Board to take over as co-president.  Adele Shepherd volunteered to move from the VP to the Secretary position.  We therefore have an open position for a VP.  If you are interested in being considered to fill in until May 1, please contact Diane Kovach.  The Board meets once a month and there are a couple of photos from the last meeting so you can get a feel for what we do during a  meeting.  Click here to see them.  Click here for the VP Job Description.

We were happy to have ISGB Membership Director, Jo Hoffracker. at our meeting.  Here she explains different membership levels.  2008 Membership dues to the ISGB are now due.

The focal point of our meeting was a Demo by Heather Trimlett who made a beautiful blown hollow bead. Click here to see more of Heather's beads.

In honor of Heather, this months challenge was to make a button or a vessel.  The winner of a copy of Deanne Griffin-Dove's Dots book, was Marcy Lamberson.

The face button at the upper right was made by Robert Simmons.  It is made from a murrini - cool!!!   Marcy Lamberson made the red vessel, the red button with the heart, and the blue/red/yellow murrini button - doesn't the latter just pop! Becky Sizemore made the black button in the top row.  If you  made or can identify any of the other buttons or beads, please let the Web Mama know.

In case we forgot that Halloween was almost upon us, some of our members came in costume.
